Masked Miscreants Attack JNU Students

Masked miscreants allegedly belonging to the ABVP barged into the campus and attacked JNU University students and teachers.

The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) of Delhi witnessed massive violence on Sunday evening when a group of masked miscreants barged into the campus and attacked students and teachers.The attackers, who were armed with sticks and stones, also damaged property on the campus. At least 20 persons, including the President of JNU Students' Union (JNUSU) Aishe Ghosh, were injured in the incident.

The JNUSU have protested the increase in the fees by the universities. The ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) is a student association affiliated with the RSS & the BJP. They had initially supported the campaign against the fee hike. However, they later withdrew this support.On Sunday, students gathered at the Computer department to try and block the WiFi services for online registration. The JNUSU have said that the masked students of the ABVP attacked the students. These masked people even entered the girls hostel and started attacking girls. 


Professors who were trying to protect the students were attacked as well. Students have said that even though the Delhi police was present, they did nothing to stop the attackers. Activist and Swaraj Abhiyan President, Yogendra Yadav, was also heckled and manhandled outside the JNU's main gate reportedly in the presence of police. Yadav said that, "This is an attack right under the nose of Delhi Police...this was an attack on the university. It is beyond shocking," BJP said, "We strongly condemn the violence on JNU campus." However now the ABVP are saying that its members were attacked by students.
