Man Throws Acid on Wife for not Bearing a Son

A man in Punjab's Patiala attempted to kill his wife for bearing him two daughters while he wanted a son.

There was a farmer from Naugavan village in the Patiala district. He got married in 2014, and the couple has two daughters – aged six and four years. The man often blamed his wife for not bearing him a son. He also picked up arguments with her over frivolous issues. On Tuesday 13th April evening, he poured acid on her in want of a male child. The woman sustained nearly 58 per cent burns in the acid attack. Her head and chest suffered severe damage. She was dashed to a Rajpura hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder against him. Police officials said the man is a drug addict but no arrest has been made so far. The investigation is going on. In another incident, a 60-year-old man allegedly hacked his 55-year-old wife to death with a knife, and later phoned the police to inform them about the murder. The incident took place at the couple’s residence in Kailash Nagar locality in Ludhiana on Thursday 15th April last week.
