Man Married 14 Women in 7 Indian States

A sexagenarian who allegedly married 14 women in seven states in a span of 48 years was arrested in Bhubaneswar.

There was an old man around the age of 60-70 years. He was from a small village in Odisha's Kendrapara district. He married his 1st wife in 1982. He then took a second wife in 2002 but the wives did not know about this. He fathered five children from these two marriages. Between 2002 and 2020, he befriended other women through matrimonial websites and married them without knowledge of the other wives. Like that he married a total of 14 women. His first two wives were from Odisha. The other 12 women are from seven states Indian states. None of these women knew that he was married to multiple women. He used to identify himself as a doctor and married lawyers, physicians and highly-educated women. One of the women he married was in the army. The man used to target middle-aged single women, mostly divorcees who sought companionship on matrimonial websites. Later he acquires their money before abandoning them.

The man was staying in Bhubneshwar with his last wife, who was a school teacher. She, somehow, came to know of his earlier marriages and lodged a complaint with the police. When the police investigated, they found out about his wrongdoings and arrested him. Police seized 11 ATM cards, four Aadhaar cards and other fake documents from his possession. He has been charged with duping women and creating fake documents. The police said that this is not the first time, he has been arrested. He was earlier arrested twice for cheating unemployed youths and loan fraud in Hyderabad and Ernakulam, Kerala.
