The patient Mohammad Sayeed(75) died at the Nil Ratan Sicar Medical College and Hospital, the family blamed the doctors of medical negligence and said the body was not released on time.The doctors say they were assaulted after a mob arrived to fight with them. Protesting this assault the doctors went on strike for 5 days. They demanded more security and protection. Doctors all over the country protested this assault as well.  

On 13th June while visiting West Bengal CM a Hospital Banerjee said  "They are outsiders. The government will not support them in any way. I condemn doctors who have gone on strike. Policemen die in the line of duty but the police don't go on a strike," further adding that the strike will not be tolerated. But later Mamata Banerjee agreed to all the demands of the Junior Doctors. She said that all the demands had been accepted and that the attack was unfortunate and would be an audit of all hospitals security and each hospital would have an officer in charge of security.

She promised protection for all junior doctors who willingly return to work and asked the others to come and negotiate with the state secretariat but said she will not go to the hospital to negotiate with them. Banerjee also said that she was not going to arrest or have any confrontation with the striking doctors, which has happened in other states saying she was showing that her “Government has a human face”. The All-India president of IMA (Indian Medical Association) Shantanu Sen said after meeting senior doctors, police and administrators and trying to resolve the issues he said there were “outsiders” who were trying to incite the junior doctors and keep the strike alive.
