Maharashtra Records Highest COVID-19 Cases
In the sharpest spurt since lockdown started, Maharashtra notched a staggering 302 Covid-19 positive cases with the highest number from Mumbai.
Maharashtra now has a total of 302 Covid-19 positive cases. This is the highest in India. There were 72 positive cases reported yesterday. Out of these, 59 are from Mumbai. This is the largest increase in the number of cases within a day. The numbers are constantly increasing. Maharashtra has 10 Covid-19 deaths. 8 in Mumbai, and 1 each in Pune and Buldhana. The youngest victim was a 40-year old home-wife with no history of foreign travel.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray again appealed to people to remain indoors and maintain social distancing."The 'war against virus' has reached a crucial stage and this is the time to exercise extreme precautions. Please do not step out of your homes for your own safety,"The CM said, ‘The state has sufficient stocks of foodgrains, vegetables and medicines and there's no need to panic,’The health authorities have sealed off the Worli-Koliwada, one of Mumbai's oldest fisherfolk colonies after at least 4-5 positive cases were detected.
Disinfection and fumigation is on along with contact tracing.According to officials, one of the reasons for the huge increase in cases in Mumbai is the large population in Mumbai.There are many slums in Mumbai. Here people live in cramped quarters, with common sanitation facilities, insufficient water supply, no open spaces or greenery. This is why it is easy for the disease to spread.
