Kerala: Made To Lick Toilet Seat; 15-Yr-Old Dies By Suicide

A 15-year-old boy, Mihir Ahammed, tragically died by suicide after being severely bullied at school, sparking outrage and calls for justice in Kerala.

A 15-year-old boy, Mihir Ahammed, tragically died after falling from the 26th floor of his residence in Ernakulam, Kerala, on January 15, 2025. According to reports, Mihir returned home from Global Public School and an hour later, took his own life.

His mother, Rajna PM, has accused Mihir's classmates of severely bullying him, which she believes led to his tragic death. She claims that Mihir was humiliated and physically abused by his classmates, including being dragged to the washroom, forced to lick a toilet seat, and having his head pushed into a toilet while it was flushed. Rajna also alleged that Mihir was bullied because of his dark skin and called derogatory names, including "poopy head."

In social media posts, Rajna shared that some students celebrated his death, with one even sharing a disturbing animated video mocking his suicide. Despite the school claiming to have forwarded the matter to the police, Rajna believes the school concealed the bullying to protect its reputation.

Mihir had previously been suspended from GEMS Modern Academy after an incident with a female student. His mother said the school's Vice Principal, Binu Azeez, used harsh disciplinary methods that worsened Mihir’s mental health. After Mihir’s suspension, he was transferred to Global Public School, where the bullying continued, eventually leading to his suicide.

In a letter to Binu Azeez, Mihir’s mother accused him of playing a significant role in her son's suffering, saying the harsh treatment, including isolation during exams and being removed from the basketball team, only worsened Mihir’s emotional state.

Following Mihir’s death, the school issued a statement expressing sorrow and held a 2-minute silence in his memory. The Vice Principal has been suspended pending investigations.

Mihir was the nephew of PC Musthafa, CEO of iD Fresh Foods, who expressed his grief on social media, describing Mihir as like a son to him. Politician Rahul Gandhi also reacted to the tragedy, calling for better protection for children in schools.

The incident has sparked outrage, with celebrities like Samantha Ruth Prabhu speaking out against bullying and ragging. She emphasized that such behavior is violence, not harmless teasing, and called for action to end the suffering of students.

An Instagram page, 'Justice for Mihir,' was created after Mihir's death, but it was later deleted, raising concerns. The police are now investigating the circumstances surrounding Mihir’s death, including the role of both students and school staff in the bullying. The General Education Department is also looking into whether Mihir's rights were violated under the POCSO Act, and the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights has taken up the case.

Authorities are determined to ensure justice is served in this tragic incident.
