Kerala: 7000 Women Dance Together and Create World Record

Kudumbashree, world's largest women's group, sets Thiruvathira dance record in Kerala.

Kerala's all-woman organization called Kudumbashree is the world’s largest women’s organization. Kudumbashree works for the empowerment of women in rural as well as urban areas of Kerala belonging to all walks of life.On 30th August 2023, they set a unique record. Over 7,027 women performed the Thiruvathira dance. Thiruvathira is a traditional group dance form in Kerala, staged mainly during the Onam festival. The performance in front of a packed audience lasted for 10 minutes. The mega Thiruvathira dance was staged on the grounds of Kuttanellur Government College in Thrissur, Kerala. The performance has already found a place in the Limca Book of World Records and in the Talent World Records because of the highest number of participants. The certificate of the Talent World Records was handed over to the Kudumbashree representatives by its officials soon after the performance.  The Limca Records' certificate would be handed over later. Now the organization would soon try for its entry in the Guinness Book of World Records. Kerala’s Revenue Minister K Rajan who inaugurated the event, lavishing praise on the participants, said, “Kudumbashree, which has become the world's largest women's network, is an exemplary model of women empowerment.”
