Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Tuesday declared an emergency in Tokyo and 6 other parts of the country for a month due to the COVID-19 crisis. An emergency is where all authorities like government, police, medical, etc will be on high alert and careful for COVID-19. Abe said that the COVID-19 is a danger to the lives of Japanese people and the economy. This is why an emergency has been imposed. An announcement of an emergency means the officials in Japan will have more power to control citizens and businesses.

However a strict lockdown has not been announced yet. This state of emergency can go on for 6 months.

Till now more than 1,000 COVID-19 cases have been reported in Tokyo. Similarly, cases have been reported in Osaka and Hyogo as well. Due to the rising cases the Japanese government is under a lot of pressure to impose strict rules to control the virus but none of them have been implemented till now.
