J&K Leaders Released From House Arrest

Nearly two months after they were put under house arrest, many politicians of Jammu were released by the state government.

In August, before  the Indian government decided to convert J&K into a Union Territory and remove Article 370 security in J&K was increased a lot. Since August 5, Political leaders were put under house arrest so that they do not make controversial speeches to the public and cause violence. Nearly two months after they were put under house arrest, many politicians of Jammu were released by the state government.

This decision was taken because Jammu has largely been peaceful since Article 370 was removed.

This decision was taken just a few days after the government announced elections for Block Development Council. However Important leaders such as Ex-Chief Ministers Mehbooba Mufti, Ex-CM Omar Abdullah and J&K People's Conference party’s leader Sajjad Lone are still under house arrest. Union minister 07 Jitendra Singh said that no politician in Jammu and Kashmir will be kept under house arrest for more than 18 months. He said that  they are not under arrest, but are living as "house guests".
