IndiGo Flight Shakes in Air, Travellers Scream, Plane Damaged

On 21st May, 2025, the IndiGo flight 6E2142 hit severe turbulence due to a sudden hailstorm.

A terrifying mid-air incident shocked passengers on an IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar, leaving many of them screaming and praying for safety.

The flight, with 227 people on board, took off from Delhi and ran into severe turbulence about 45 minutes after takeoff. The aircraft was hit by a sudden hailstorm and possibly a bird strike, which caused the plane to shake violently in the air.

As the storm hit, the overhead bins opened, bags fell out, and lightning was visible through the windows. Passengers said it felt like a “near-death experience”, with many screaming in fear.

The front part of the plane (nose cone) was damaged due to the hail and the bird strike. Despite the damage, the pilots remained calm and quickly declared an emergency.

The flight safely landed at Srinagar Airport around 6:30 PM. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.

Passengers praised the IndiGo pilot and cabin crew for staying calm and guiding everyone during the scary moments.

IndiGo confirmed the incident and said the aircraft would not fly again until full safety checks and repairs are done. The plane has been declared AOG (Aircraft on Ground), which means it is grounded due to technical problems.

An official from the Airport Authority of India said:

“All aircrew and 227 passengers are safe. The flight is declared AOG by the airline.”

A full investigation is now going on to find out exactly what happened during the flight.
