Indian Wins Elections in Japan
A part Indian, part Japanese citizen, wins the elections in Japan, he now becomes an “Assemblyman”
A 41 year old Puranik Yogendra, who has taken the nickname “Yogi” has won the local Japanese elections from the Tokyo ward of Edogawa. Edogawa has the highest number of Indians residing there. More than 10% of the total Indian population in Japan, resides in Edogawa. Yogi has been living in Edogawa since the year 2005. This was the first victory of a Japanese origin Indian, and that his victory is a recognition of Indian contributions to Japanese society.
Yogi went to Japan in 1999 to study. After two years, he began working as an engineer. After this he worked in a bank. In 2012, he acquired Japanese Citizenship, and after this, he began to pursue his career in politics. He said that he felt the need to become an Assemblyman, who could unite the people despite all of their differences.
