Indian journalist Danish Siddiqui (38) was working with Reuters - an international news organisation - as a photographer since 2010. Siddiqui's work spanned covering the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Hong Kong protests and Nepal earthquakes. Mr Siddiqui was part of the Reuters photography team to win the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Feature Photography for documenting the Rohingya refugee crisis. Recently there are a lot of problems going on in Afghanistan. Taliban, a military group in Afghanistan have captured a lot of parts of the country. For many years, the American army was in Afghanistan and had helped the Afghanistan government and security forces to fight the Taliban. Few weeks back America called back its army. After that the Taliban became more active and is taking over parts of Afghanistan. Because of this there are fights going on between Afghanistan forces and the Taliban.Reuters had sent Danish to cover this news in Afghanistan. On 16th July while reporting a clash, Danish was wounded in the arm by shrapnel.
Afghan special forces had been fighting to retake the main market area of Spin Boldak. Even though Danish was injured from the shrapnel, he still went to the Spin Boldak to cover the fight. Mr Siddiqui had been talking to shopkeepers when the Taliban started firing. In the firing, Danish and a senior Afghan officer were killed in a Taliban crossfire. Reuters President Michael Friedenberg and Editor-in-Chief Alessandra Galloni said, "We are urgently seeking more information, working with authorities in the region.
