Indian Chinese Army Exchange Firing in Sikkim

Around 150 Indian and Chinese soldiers were involved in a violent confrontation at the Naku La Pass in Sikkim. Watch our latest video for all the details.

On Saturday 8th May there was a fierce face-off between the Indian and Chinese armies at  Naku La pass, Sikkim. This happened while the Indian and Chinese soldiers were on regular patrolling duties. It is the first time that the Indian and Chinese army had a fight at Naku La pass. A total of 150 soldiers were involved from both sides. Four Indian soldiers and seven Chinese troops suffered injuries during the confrontation.

The fight was resolved at the local level. However, fights between Indian and Chinese troops near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) is common. The LAC is the Indo-China border at Ladakh, Uttrakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh. In September 2019, a fight broke out between Indian and Chinese soldiers near Pangong Lake in Ladakh.

Both the armies threw stones at each other. The matter was resolved through talks between the two armies.

In June 2017, there was a 73-day fight between India and China at Doklam near Sikkim border.  It was because the Indian army stopped the building of a road in an area by the Chinese army. India has always said that for the smooth developmental ties/relations between both the countries, it is important to maintain peace and calm at the border.
