Police have arrested a man from Missouri, US.  He was 19-year-old Sai Varshith Kandula, who is of Indian origin. They believe he intentionally crashed a truck into a security barrier at a park across from the White House, the official residence of the US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The US Secret Service (Security for President and the Vice President) said that he smashed into the barrier on Monday 22 May 2023 around 10 pm. A witness, Chris Zaboji, said the driver smashed into the barrier at wice. He said he took out his phone and captured the moment the truck struck the barrier again before he heard sirens approaching. After the crash, Kandula came out of the truck and started shouting when he was detained by the local Police and Secret Service officers.

A Nazi flag was recovered from the driver’s area of the truck. Along with it, a black backpack and a roll of duct tape were also retrieved. The truck otherwise appeared to be empty.  US Park police said Kandula was arrested on multiple charges. Kandula later told the Secret Service that he had bought a one-way ticket from St. Louis to Washington DC as a part of his six-month plan to “get to the White House, seize power, and be put in charge of the nation”.

He also said he would “kill the President” if needed. He also said he was ready to kill vice-president Kamala Harris. He said that he is an admirer of Nazi ideology - one leader ruling the entire state. He was a believer of Hitler and fond of the authoritarian nature he had, and so he bought the Nazi flag online because of his admiration.
He wanted to get rid of the American Government and rule the nation like Hitler. Kandula had legally rented the truck.  According to the rental car company, he had a valid contract in his own name. The company also said that trucks can be rented at 18 years of age and he was 19 so that was legal. And, that there were no concerns raised looking at his previous rental records. Everything seemed okay.
