India Wins 3 Medals in Deaflympics 2021

In the latest session of the Deaflympics, Indian athletes are seen performing really well as India has managed to enter the list of top 10 with a total of 3 Medals so far- Watch full story

Deaflympics 2021 is currently being held in the city of Caxias in Brazil. This international tournament started on May 1 and will end on May 15 with around 2,100 athletes from 72 countries participating at different Games. The Games were scheduled to take place from December 5 to 21 last year but were postponed to May 2022 due to COVID-19.

India, meanwhile, has sent a total of 65 athletes to compete in 11 different  sports. This is India’s largest-ever representation at the Deaflympics since making its debut in 1965. India opened its medal tally in the Deaflympics 2021 with 2 medals in Men's 10m Air Rifle by Dhanush Srikanth and Shourya Saini. Dhanush won the gold, and Shaurya won the bronze medal. Our Gold medalist Dhanush comes from Telangana and trains at Gangan Narang's academy in Hyderabad, He also became the first shooter who Deaf who got selected in the Indian national team in 2019. Shourya had been trained for this sports event  by National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) instructors Anuja Jung and Priti Sharma. 

Later the Indian badminton mixed team won the gold medal in the Deaflympics championships after beating Japan in the final.  Thanks to the early medals, India have broken into the top 10 of the medal tally and sit comfortably at the eighth position.

However the fact might leave you in great shock, that Ukraine which has been greatly affected by war for almost two months is the one who is leading the points table standing at the first position with a total of 46 medals until  5th May, 11.50PM .
