India Overtakes China As The Most Populous Country

India will overtake China as the most populous country in the world very soon, and take an even bigger gap in the next 20 years

According to the United Nations (U.N), India is set to become the World's most populated country in the world by 2027. Currently India has a population of 1.3 Billion and China has a population of 1.4 Billion. China and India combined make up 37% of the world's population. It is roughly 7.7 Billion.

For a long time, China has been trying to control their population. For many years they had a rule that couple were allowed only one child. Since the birth rate was reducing they have now removed this rule. The UN have said that in the long run China’s population is going to shrink to 1.1 billion and India’s will grow to 1.5 billion. In 1955 the world’s population was only 2.6 billion people. The report says by 2050 the world's population will reach 9.7 billion people.

The UN have said that by 2050, Nigeria will become the third most populous country with around 733 million people. The United States will be in fourth place who will have a population of 434 million.

Overpopulation leads to problems such as pollution, malnutrition, overcrowded living conditions, lacking health care which makes poor communities vulnerable to infectious diseases, etc.
