India Might Have a Covid Wave in January?

The next 40 days will be crucial as India may see a surge of Covid cases in mid-January, said some sources from the Union Health Ministry.

We have earlier released about the havoc caused around the world because of the spike in covid cases in China. Although recently a couple of videos are also going viral from China in which people of Indian origin are trying to show that the situation in China is not as it is being portrayed on the internet and other media platforms. In the viral videos it can be seen that despite a mild infection spreading across China, the country seems to work normally with no major difference caused. The video claims that the situation in China is exaggerated and rumoured to create panic amongst people. Although, just 188 new cases have been detected in the last 24 hours in India.

However, the next 40 days will be crucial as India may see a surge of Covid cases in mid-January, said some sources from the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, 28th of December. The sources said that this has been understood after analysing the previous trends of the Covid surge India has experienced. Moreover, as there have been reports of a rise in Covid cases in some countries, the operational readiness of health facilities is being reviewed in all States and Union Territories in case of another wave. Notably, two passengers coming from Dubai tested positive for the Covid infection at Chennai airport on Wednesday, 28th of December. Also, at least 39 international travellers have tested positive for Covid infection between December 24-26 as the random testing of international passengers arriving at the airports is being done.

Also, hospitals across India conducted a Mock drill for Covid. The purpose of the mock drill was to calculate COVID preparedness in terms of resources, protocol, and personnel. Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also went to the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi to observe the Mock drill on Tuesday, 27th of December.

However, the same sources belonging to the union health ministry have also said that even if there is a possible wave in January, the severity of infection would be very less and the hospitalisation rate in patients will remain low with an even low death rate.
