Heavy Rains & Floods Wreak Havoc in Maharashtra. More than 27 people have died and more than 2 lakh people were forced to evacuate.

 Western Maharashtra has received a lot of rainfall due to which there are dangerous floods. More than 27 people have died and more than 2 lakh people were forced to evacuate.  The rain stopped in a few areas, but in Sangli and Kolhapur the situation is extremely dangerous. 38 Dams in Pune, Satara, Sangli and Kolhapur are overflowing. Since dams are overflowing water from many dams was let out which led to an increase in floods. Yesterday afternoon in Sangli, 10 people died due to flood. This included 3 children. NDRF and military teams were helping to rescue people. A woman and her two children aged 4 and 5 also died. Rescue boats had a capacity of only 17 people. But more than 30 people were on the boat without life jackets. 

In Kolhapur, there is a severe shortage of petrol as well because all the highways are shut due to heavy rains. People do not have electricity as well, as the government is worried that due to floods there may be electrocution accidents. In a village 8 kms from Kolhapur, the floods are 12-15 feet high. The situation is extremely dangerous.Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis was visiting the flooded area and inspecting the rescue operations in a plane. He has offered families of the victims Rs 5 lakh each. Fadnavis said that he is sending various teams to help and rescue people. More medical teams will be sent from Mumbai to help people.There is a severe shortage of supply of vegetables to Mumbai. This is why the prices have increased a lot.Tomato is selling for Rs 80-90 and ginger for Rs 300-350. The railway between [Box 08 Mumbai and Pune will be shut till August 11. 

Even in Goa there are very dangerous floods and 150 families had to be evacuated. Kerala is experiencing extremely heavy rainfalls. There were dangerous landslides and floods. 9,500 people were evacuated and shifted to relief camps.
