Govt Makes Traffic Rules More Strict

Fines for many traffic violations will soon go up and stricter rules for many other violations will soon be enforced.

The Government has introduced a bill in the Parliament that has increased the fine to Rs 10,000 for blocking emergency vehicles like Ambulance, Fire Brigade and the Police. The fine for drinking driving which will also be Rs 10,000.

They plan to include many new updates to the fine structure for the police to use against motorists. In Hit and run cases they will have a compensation of Rs 10 Lakh and Rs 1 lakh for contractors whose faulty roadworks cause death. People in the traffic police or transport departments who break such rules or do not follow them can face fines of Rs 2 Lakh.

Some other changes to fines in the new bill include; Rs 1,000 up from Rs 100 for not wearing a helmet also your licence will be suspended for 3 months, not wearing a seat belt has also gone up to Rs 1,000 from Rs 100. Street racing done by cars and bikes will also not face a stiffer penalty of Rs 5,000 now.

Another important addition is where the owner of the car and registration shall be held responsible if a juvenile breaks any laws with fines starting at Rs 25,000 and up to 3 years in jail. Taxi drivers who violate there licensing conditions will also now face a fine of Rs 25,000 to Rs 1 lakh. The Bill also provides for creating a centralized driving licence and vehicle process by setting up online national registers.
