Flu Cases Increase in India: Know Symptoms and Treatment

It is being seen that several parts of India have been registering a significant rise in influenza (H3N2), a kind of flu.

However, it is being seen that several parts of India have been registering a significant rise in influenza (H3N2), a kind of flu. The flu which has been in wide circulation for the past two-three months causes a persistent cough. It leaves most people with a painful rasping cough that lasts for days, sometimes weeks.  The increase in the number of patients is because of seasonal changes and even pollution is also playing a significant influence in increasing the number of patients.  The surge in cases has created a scare among the general public.  People are indiscriminately using antibiotics to protect themselves which are used to treat bacterial infections. Indian Medical Association (IMA) has warned against the use of antibiotics without a prescription.

Let me tell you the symptoms and the precautions: 

Symptoms:

  • Fever often above 100 degree Fahrenheit 

  • Chills

  • Sore throat and severe Coughing

  • Runny nose and sneezing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle and body aches

Treatment and Precaution: 

  • Vaccination: Annual flu vaccinations should be obtained. It is advised to receive it by the end of October.

  • Hand hygiene: Regularly wash your hands, especially after using the restroom, before consuming food, and before touching your face, nose, or mouth.

  • Crowded areas: Avoid crowded areas where the virus can quickly spread. Wear Mask outside. 

  • Interactions: Restrict your interactions with sick people.

  • Self-quarantine: In case of flu, stay at home for 24 hours after the fever has subsided. We must also cover our mouth while coughing or sneezing to avoid spreading the illness.

Medication: Avoid self medication. If your doctor has prescribed you medicine, you should take it exactly as directed by your doctor.
