Dashrat first mixed sedatives in ice-cream, and gave it to his wife so that she would sleep in the bedroom. He then gave his son some sedative tablets. Dashrat filled water in a three feet steel box used for storing rice and drowned Yogesh by putting his head in it. He then hanged himself in the living room. The Mulund Police said the matter came to light on Sunday 20 June morning when Bhat's wife who was sleeping in the master bedroom woke up and saw Dashrat dead in the living room. A Mulund police officer said, “She immediately called her daughter who lives in the neighbouring wing. After the daughter reached the house, they started searching for Yogesh who was found with his head inside the steel box in his bedroom.”
With the help of local residents, the wife informed police after which a team was dispatched and the bodies were taken to a hospital, where doctors declared both of them dead. The police also found a suicide note written by Dashrat. In the letter he said that he had been looking after his son since his birth. He had to feed him, give him showers and do odd jobs on a daily basis. Dashrath was worried about who would look after Yogesh after he died. This is why he took such an extreme step.
