Euro 2020 : Christian Eriksen Collapses Mid-Game

Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen, who collapsed mid-game against Finland, has been shifted to a hospital where he is undergoing further treatment.

UEFA EURO 2020 is a European Football Championship. After being in lockdown for months, Europe has finally relaxed their rules and the football championship started on 11th June. The Denmark vs Finland football match for the tournament was held on 12th June 2021 in Denmark’s Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium. The stadium was completely filled with people. A football match lasts for two equal halves of 45 minutes. A few minutes before the half time,  29 year old Christian Eriksen from the Denmark team  collapsed face first on the field. Eriksen hadn’t been brought down in a tackle – in fact, there was no one around him when he collapsed. The game was immediately stopped by the referee and he called for doctors.

The Danish players surrounded Christian Eriksen to prevent cameras from capturing pictures of doctors performing CPR. The entire stadium was quiet. Nobody seemed to understand what was going on. Many of the spectators started crying. Eriksen’s wife Sabrina Kvist Jensen, came to the pitch and was consoled by Denmark’s captain and goalkeeper. Eriksen was then taken to the hospital. Later the Denmark Football Association Tweeted, 'Cjristian Eriksen is awake and at the hospital undergoing treatment.’ After the tweet people breathed a sigh of relief and were calm. 2 hours after Eriksen was taken to the hospital, the football match resumed. Finland beat Denmark 1-0.
