In a heart-wrenching incident, an 18-year-old elephant in Sigiriya, Sri Lanka died of exhaustion after giving three consecutive rides to tourists.A day before its death, the elephant was also made to walk in a parade. For the past four years, the elephant had carried visitors on tours $30. Because of this incident, animal welfare activists have been urging authorities to take action and bring about policy changes.
This is not the first time an animal has died due to exhaustion. Many animals all over the world are used to attract tourists. Elephants, camels and horses are used to give rides ;tigers lions are chain and tortured to be calm while meeting humans. People do not take care of the animals and use them for business purposes to earn money. When the elephant died in Sri Lanka people said this could have easily been avoided.
If tourists say they will stop riding on the elephant or any animal used for business then it will automatically stop. We must be more aware about this and say no when we see an animal suffering.
