Draupadi Murmu to Become India’s 2nd Female President?

Droupadi Murmu, the 64 year old tribal leader and former Governor of Jharkhand, has been named as BJP-led NDA's choice for the next President of India.

Currently the President of India is Ram Nath Kovind and his term will soon end. So now soon there will be elections in the Rajya Sabha to elect a new President. Many parties have submitted their candidates for the President’s position. At a BJP meeting attended by PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and other BJP leaders, BJP chief JP Nadda announced that after going through 20 candidates Draupadi Murmu is the BJP’s candidate for the position of President. 64- year-old Murmu, a former Jharkhand governor, will be the first tribal woman to occupy the top constitutional post if she is elected. There is a strong possibility as numbers are stacked in favour of the BJP. She will also be the first President of India, hailing from the state of Odisha, and second-ever female after Pratibha Patil, if elected. Announcing the NDA's candidate for India's next President, JP Nadda said that the BJP parliamentary board discussed 20 names for the presidential nominee, and it was decided to pick someone from east India, a tribal and woman.

After the official announcement was made by BJP Chief , Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his twitter account said "Droupadi Murmu has devoted her life to serving society and empowering the poor, downtrodden as well as the marginalised. She has rich administrative experience. I am confident she will be a great President of our nation," However, talking about the opposition, Yashwant Sinha has been named as the joint candidate of the opposition parties for the Presidential election. (opposition parties -  Congress, the TMC and the Samajwadi Party, etc.) The election is set to take place on 18th July. Who do you think would be the ideal choice for India’s next presidential candidate? Do mention your thoughts in the comment section below.
