Draupadi Murmu Becomes the 15th President of India

A Tribal Woman hailing from the state of Odisha, Draupadi Murmu has created history by becoming India's first Tribal-Woman President.

India's president is the highest constitutional position in the country. After 5 Years of Ramnath Kovind’s service as the president of India, India is finally all set to have its next president, and it's none other than what everyone predicted “Draupadi Murmu”. Over 4,800 MP’s & MLA’s around the country from both the national and state parliaments voted in the presidential election after which Draupadi Murmu managed to secure an easy victory with the backing of her Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is currently in power. Value of an MLA vote= Total population of the state or union territory / (divided by) Total number of elected members of the State Legislative Assembly X 1000. Once you get the value of 1 MLAs vote, you calculate the values of all MLAs in the states throughout the country. Do the total of the values. You will the total vote value of MLAs in India. 

Using this you can calculate the value of one MP.  

Value of 1 MP vote = The total vote value of ALL MLAs in India / The total of MPs in Rajya Sabha & Lok Sabha 

During the election all the MPs voted. Murmu secured Droupadi Murmu secured 2824 votes which has a value of which is 6,76,803.  While her rival Yashwant Sinha bagged 1,877 first votes-- the value of which is 3,80,177. So Murmu clearly won with a majority.

Now, When you already know that Draupadi Murmu is all set to create history by becoming India’s first tribal woman president, let us tell you about his background. Draupadi Murmu belongs to the Santhal tribe of Odisha. She had worked as a teacher before entering Indian politics. Murmu has been an MLA twice, on a BJP ticket, in 2000 and 2009. In 2015, Murmu was appointed as the first female governor of the eastern state of Jharkhand and held the position until July 2021. Some people also see Murmu's presidential election as a  victory of the tribal community and had recognised it as a breakthrough moment for the entire community, which has been neglected and exploited by votes by several governments. Apart from being the first tribal woman president, Draupadi Murmu is also just the second woman president since independence. Before her, Pratibha Devi Singh Patil served as India’s 12th President. She struggled a lot from childhood. She is an Arts graduate from Rama Devi Women’s college in Bhubaneswar. She was the first woman from her village to leave for Bhubaneswar and get a college degree. Her husband passed away in 2014 and she lost both her sons at the age of 25 and 21 years. She has one daughter Itishree Murmu who lives in Bhubaneswar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Droupadi Murmu on her election as new President  He [Box 16 tweeted, "Smt. Draupadi Murmu Ji has devoted her life to serving society and empowering the poor, the downtrodden as well as the marginalized. She has rich administrative experience and had an outstanding gubernatorial tenure. I am confident she will be a great President of our nation." President Ram Nath Kovind also extended his best wishes to Draupadi Murmu who will succeed him in the highest office of the country from 25th July.
