Delhi Woman Gang-Raped Inside a Moving Bus: Nirbhaya Case Repeated?

A woman was allegedly raped inside a bus in Delhi, leading to quick arrests and fresh concerns over women’s safety.

A shocking incident in Delhi has once again raised serious concerns about women’s safety in the city.
On the night of 11th May, in the Mangolpuri area of Delhi, a 30-year-old woman was returning home from her factory job. While waiting at a bus stop in Saraswati Vihar, she approached a sleeper bus and asked the man at the door for the time.

According to police reports, the woman was then forcibly pulled inside the bus. The driver, Umesh, and the conductor, Ramendra, allegedly raped her inside the vehicle. Some reports say the bus was parked near Nangloi Metro Station, while others suggest it kept moving for nearly two hours in the Rani Bagh area, covering around 7 km.

There is currently no clear information on how the woman managed to escape.

At around 4:45 am, the woman contacted the police and reported the crime. She was later taken for a medical examination. Based on her complaint, an FIR was registered and an investigation was launched.

Police arrested one accused soon after the FIR, while the second was caught within four hours. Both were presented in court and sent to judicial custody. The sleeper bus used in the crime has also been seized.

Delhi Police are now examining CCTV footage, forensic evidence and technical data to strengthen the case. The investigation is ongoing.

The incident has sparked strong political reactions. The Aam Aadmi Party criticised the BJP-led government over women’s safety in Delhi, calling it a repeat of the 2012 Delhi gang rape.

Former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia also reacted on social media, stating that women and girls are no longer safe in the national capital.
This incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger safety measures and strict action to protect women in Delhi.
