Now, there’s an exciting update to the story!
The man has sold the JioHotstar.com domain to a young brother-sister duo, Jainam Jain, 13, and Jivika Jain, 10, who live in Dubai.
The siblings started their own YouTube channel back in 2017, initially sharing videos of toy unboxings, DIY projects, and family fun. Later, they shifted to creating science-based content and are now working on launching a podcast featuring some popular celebrities.
They also run a registered NGO called the Jainam Jivika Foundation.
But how did two kids manage to buy the domain?
Once they bought JioHotstar.com, Jainam and Jivika posted an open letter titled "Seva journey" on 25th October 2024.
In the letter, they shared how they recently spent 50 days in India during their summer vacation, traveling across the country, meeting kids from different backgrounds, sharing study tips, playing fun games, and encouraging big dreams.
During their visit, they received gifts and small donations from people they met and made many videos about their memorable time in India. They used part of these donations to buy the JioHotstar.com domain from the Delhi man, who is a young software developer.
However, the letter did not reveal the exact amount they paid.
This raises the question: did the kids really manage to pay over Rs1 crore, or did the Delhi man give them a huge discount to avoid legal issues with Reliance Industries?
In their letter, Jainam and Jivika wrote, "Even though we're kids, we believe age doesn’t matter when it comes to spreading kindness and positivity."
They also mentioned that the domain is open for sale in the future for anyone who wishes to carry forward this positive mission.
Reliance Industries has not yet commented on the new owners of JioHotstar.com.
