Deaf Students Protesting in Jodhpur Against Hostel Warden

Students of a Deaf school in Rajasthan’s Jodhpur are protesting against the school management and hostel warden.

In Jodhpur, Rajasthan’s Mata Ka Than area, the hostel students of residential Gandhi Deaf Higher Secondary School have been protesting against the hostel warden since 2 days and demand suspension of hostel superintendent  According to the students, their pain is not understood by anyone because they are Deaf and that is why their complaints are getting suppressed. The students said that the arrangements in the hostel have deteriorated.  Small children are being tortured. There is no cleanliness and many times insects are found in food, but no action is taken even after complaining. Many times the food available is less and many children have to sleep hungry.  The students even alleged that the hostel superintendent insults and misbehaves with the students. If the students drop something on the floor, they are even beaten up. The students feel that if they would have been hearing students, they would not have tolerated so much injustice and the administration would have taken some action. However, since they are Deaf, no one is taking any cognizance of their problems.

The students alleged that Gandhi Deaf Higher Secondary School is subsidized by the Directorate of Specially Abled Persons of the State Government. Hence there should be minimal or no fees charged. However, despite this, Rs 13000 to 26000 are being taken from the student's parents. The management committee also keeps aside the amount of assistance given by the Bhamashah scheme. On 26th January 2023, an assistance amount of ? 5000 per student was donated to all the 111 children participating in the cultural program, but till date it has not been given to any student by the management committee. Parents are also given grants through NGOs for taking admission in schools. This too has not been not given to them.

School principal Babu Ram Yadav was contacted regarding this matter, but he shrugged it off saying that he was busy. The students hope that with this protest, the administration will definitely pay attention to their demand and suspend the hostel superintendent
