COVAXIN Vaccine Trials Begin on Children in India

Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) granted COVAXIN approval to carry out clinical trials on children on May 11.

Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) granted COVAXIN approval to carry out clinical trials on children on May 11. According to the government's announcements, the trials will be conducted on 525 volunteers at several sites across the country. Only those registered children who test negative in RT-PCR as well as antibody tests will be allowed to participate. The vaccine shots will be given to children from the age of 2-18. 

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in  Patna has begun the clinical trials for COVAXIN on children. Clinical trials of the vaccine on children will also be done in All India Institute of Medical Sciences- Delhi, Mysore, Hyderabad, Nagpur, etc. 

 

Several experts and Opposition leaders have said it is very important to have a COVID vaccine that is safe for children. This is because according to expert doctors and scientists, if and when the 3rd wave of the coronavirus hits India, it could be very dangerous of Children. Currently the United States and Canada are the only countries who have approved  Pfizer’s COVID vaccination for children above the age of 12.
