Complaint Filed Against Actor Prakash Raj For Chandrayaan-3 Post

Actor Prakash Raj faces backlash for a social media post seemingly mocking India's Chandrayaan-3 mission, which he later defended as a joke about Keralite tea vendors.

A complaint has been filed against Actor Prakash Raj in a police station of Karnataka's Bagalkot district over a social media post. In the post he allegedly mocked India's ambitious Chandrayaan-3 mission. The actor on 20th August took to microblogging site X (Twitter), sharing a caricature of a man in a shirt and lungi pouring tea. Sharing the picture, he wrote, “First view just arrived from Chandrayaan .. #VikramLander #justasking.” The actor has been receiving widespread backlash from users. The post enraged netizens, who termed the meme derogatory and urged him to show respect for the scientists responsible for India's historic Moon mission. People said that the Chandrayaan-3 mission is linked to the country's pride. Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi slammed Prakash Raj for his post calling it "shameful". After receiving backlash, Prakash Raj took to Twitter and said that it was a joke'. He mentioned that he was talking about the famous chaiwalas from Kerala, who are known for tea or coffee in a unique way. He wrote on Twitter, "Hate sees only Hate...I was referring to a joke of #Armstrong times celebrating our kerala Chaiwala. Which Chaiwala did the Trolls see? if you don't get a joke then the joke is on you..GROW UP #justasking". However many wanted to know what the joke meant?
A few social media posts explained the joke. It is about how we find Keralites / Malayalis in every corner of the world and how the first thing Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin saw when they stepped foot on the moon was a Malayali selling tea there. It is a classic joke made by Keralites about themselves and they wholeheartedly accept and laugh about it since decades. Few even posted a video and a viral meme with respect to the joke. Prakash Raj also posted a link to a blog on X that details the joke he is referring to. So, the whole Prakash Raj controversy is much ado about nothing? That is for you to decide. Meanwhile, Chandrayaan-3 is set to land on the moon on 23rd August 2023, around 18:04 hours. Do watch the live ISL interpretation by ISH News.
