CM of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has ordered Marathi to be taught to all children up to class 10.

CM of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis has said Marathi has to be taught to all children up to class 10. This is the law in the state but many schools do not follow it. Fadnavis said that Marathi is an ancient language and rich like many others around the country and should be taught to all students.

Many other states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat all have rules that their mother tongue must be taught in all schools including private.Fadnavis says Marathi should be compulsory and be taught to all students no matter what board or school they go to. In Maharashtra, it is also the same but many private schools that have an ICSE, IB or any other board do not teach Marathi till 10th grade. One principal saying their school stops at grade 7.

Uday Nare, a teacher at a school in Andheri said there are several schools in the city that know they have to teach Marathi till grade 10 but they stop teaching after grade 7-8. CM Devendra has said he wants strict rules to ensure that Marathi is being taught the full 10 grades. Many people have complained about this in the past and the government has said they will take action.
