Chandigarh: Deaf Couple’s 2 Daughters Missing

A Deaf couple in Chandigarh pleaded for help as their daughters remained missing for 19 days, emphasizing police inaction and faulty CCTV cameras.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He posted a Tweet on 5 November 2023. In the post he said, “Heart-wrenching to see this family's agony - Both parents & their uncle (Chacha) are Deaf. Their young daughters are missing for 19 days in Chandigarh. With tears in their eyes, they clutch onto photographs of their beloved daughters, their pain is unbearable, as they hope and pray for their safe return.
Both girls went missing on 18 October. Sector 19 police had registered a case of kidnapping against unknown persons. Jagjit Singh, an uncle of the girls, said both are hearing. According to CCTV camera footage, both were last seen walking towards Sector 20. Later, when police checked the CCTV footage of sectors 20 and 34 Chowk, they found the cameras not working. After news reports were published in newspapers, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission took cognizance of the matter. Punjab State Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the UT SSP after the police failed to trace two daughters aged 19 and 16 years. The commission in his order told the police to put the matter before SSP, UT, who may look into the complaint and submit a report by the next hearing date on January 16, 2024.
