A 15-year-old boy in Chennai has lost vision in one eye after he was hit on the head by a teacher in school.
This happened on 5th February 5, in a Government school. The boy’s name is Kartik. He said that the teacher had beaten him on the head with a ruler in the class.After coming back home from school he told his mother everything. After this he did not go back to school because he began complaining of headache and eye pain. His left eye started reddening and swelling and he started complaining that he is not able to see clearly.
That’s when he parents took him to a doctor. Now he is waiting for surgery and is blind in one eye. Hopefully the surgery will bring his eyesight back.Kartik’s mother is very angry and wants the school to fire the teacher that did this to him. Several incidents have been reported of innocent children being subjected to corporal punishment in an attempt to discipline them. These actions are normalized in both governments as well as private schools.The Indian law allows physical punishment only for crimes.Under the Indian Constitution, violence against children is against their human rights. This is why parents or teachers are not allowed to beat the child.
