BMC Collects Rs 1.5 Lakh Parking Fines In One Day
The BMC has passed new rules that will penalise citizens for unauthorised parking in Mumbai.
The BMC has passed new rules that will penalise citizens for unauthorised parking in Mumbai. These rules were enforced on 7th of July. As per the rules say that if there is parking within 500 metres you will be fined. If you park near the BEST depots you will be fined as well. The fines for motorcycles and cars are different. Motorcycles will be fined Rs 5,000 to 8,300 and cars being will be fined Rs 10,000 to 17,600 depending on the size of the vehicle.
On July 7th the BMC fined 56 vehicles and collected Rs 1.8 lakh in fines. On 8th July they fined 80 vehicle owners and collected collected Rs 1.5 lakh in fines. There are 27 public parking lots in Mumbai. They are located in areas like Altamount Road, Malabar Hill, Worli, Lower Parel, Borivali and Santacruz. Out of the 27 lots, 10 are completely free of charge.
Additional Commissioner of BMC, Vijayawada Singhal said that they have so many parking lots. However out of all the parking lots, not even 15% of the space is being used.People park on the street causing congestion. They have introduced strict laws to people discourage people from parking on the streets.
