Jake Paul, a famous YouTuber with over 20 million subscribers, faced off against Mike Tyson, a retired professional boxer widely considered one of the greatest in history. The fight took place on 15th November 2024 and was shown live on Netflix.
However, the match was surrounded by controversy even before it started. One of the main reasons for this was the huge age difference between the two fighters. Mike Tyson is 58 years old, while Jake Paul is just 27. Many fans and critics raised concerns about this age gap and whether it was fair for the older Tyson to compete against someone much younger.
Things got heated even before the match began. At the ‘weigh-in’ event, where the boxers' weights are checked before the fight, Jake Paul accidentally stepped on Mike Tyson's foot. Tyson got extremely angry and slapped Jake Paul right there in front of everyone. The crowd was shocked, and event organizers quickly stepped in to stop Tyson and prevent further violence.
Tyson later explained that he got upset because Jake Paul was wearing shoes, while Tyson was in socks, and when Paul stepped on his toe, it hurt a lot.
As if this wasn’t enough drama, hours before the fight, a post was shared on X (formerly Twitter) showing a full script of the match. The script claimed that Jake Paul would knock out Mike Tyson at the end of the fight. However, the script turned out to be false, as things didn’t happen as planned.
When the fight finally took place, Jake Paul won by ‘unanimous decision’. This means that after 8 rounds, the judges decided that Jake Paul performed better, based on points, and declared him the winner. Tyson, who looked tired and weak during the fight, was clearly struggling because of his age.
After the match, Mike Tyson said he had nothing left to prove and hinted that he might want to fight Jake Paul’s brother, Logan Paul, in the future. Jake Paul, on the other hand, admitted that he was scared of Tyson and tried to hurt him a little during the fight.
Despite all the drama and criticism, both fighters made a huge amount of money from the match. Reports say that Mike Tyson earned around $20 million (?160 crore), while Jake Paul made $40 million (?300 crore).
The fight has sparked a lot of reactions. Many people, including famous YouTuber KSI, criticized the match, calling it "elderly abuse" and saying it was wrong to let Jake Paul fight someone so much older than him.
