Bicycle Services to Extend to 3 Mumbai Metro Stations
The bicycle rental service that was started at the Jagruti Nagar Metro station in Mumbai will now be extended to three other stations from 15th January.
In 2019, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and other agencies seeked innovative data and technology-based solutions to improve crowd management. and first- and last-mile connectivity to the Mumbai Metro. MyByk was selected as the winner.
MyByk introduced rental bicycles at Jagruti Nagar Metro station in Mumbai in February 2020 to improve connectivity. Commuters can rent a bike for ?2/hour or get weekly and monthly passes for ?280 and ?900 respectively. The bikes can be taken home and parked at the Metro stations.
The services were discontinued owing to the pandemic and re-started in November recently. The service that was started at the Jagruti Nagar Metro station will now be extended to three other stations.
According to a letter issued by the K/West ward including Andheri on 16th December 2020, MyByk can also start services in Azad Nagar, DN Nagar and Versova Metro stations. They however have to follow various conditions.
MyByk said, “We are awaiting approvals from the police, after that we are looking at starting operations from 15th January 2021 with each station having 20 cycles at first which would be increased as per demand, in future.”
