A Bengaluru based organization named De Scalene has made a device that can control the spread of coronavirus. Officials said that last week it received approvals from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the European Union. The device is named as Shycocan which stands for “Scalene Hypercharge Corona Canon”. It is like a small drum. It can be fixed in offices, schools, malls, hotels, airports or any closed area for disinfecting surfaces. It has been proved that the device is 99.9 percent effective in neutralizing the Spike-Protein or S-protein that is present in this virus. Because of this, the virus will not be able to spread from one person to another. However, it does not cure an infected person but it is highly efficient in containing the spread of deadly viruses in public areas especially indoor spaces. This device is the brainchild of Dr Rajah Vijay Kumar, the Chairman of De Scalene.
He said in an interview, “We have given a 'humanitarian' license to a few companies in India and abroad to manufacture this. Europe, Mexico and the US based companies have also approached for licenses and we would be giving permission to manufacturers allowing the production of the device in large numbers as the demand will increase in coming days.” Dr. Kumar added, "We have done studies on how it performs. It neutralizes (ineffective) the S protein that is in the coronavirus' structure. So if you put this device everywhere then it is possible that there will be global containment of the virus." In March the device was first shipped to the United States for its testing. The lab tests have shown that one device can cover about 5,000 sq feet.
The device spreads hundreds of electrons in a room or any indoor place. If an infected person comes into the room, the electrons in the air would neutralize the potency of the virus when the person sneezes, coughs, etc. It has been proved that the device is 99.9 percent effective in neutralizing the Spike-Protein or S-protein that is present in this virus. Because of this, the virus will not be able to spread from one person to another.”
Dr. Kumar said, "We have got approval from the US FDA agency. we have got the certificate of conformity from the European Union for which Shycocan was put through about 26 tests for safety, efficacy, if it has any harmful effects, if it interferes with the working of other devices or if other devices that are there in any place would interfere with the performance of this device. It has been cleared through all this." Dr. Kumar added that the license holders would be fixing the cost. In India about nine companies have shown interest in manufacturing it and three companies have already entered into a licensing agreement.
