BCCI: IPL 2022 Will Have 2 New Teams!

The Governing Council of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday confirmed that two new teams for the tournament will be announced on October 25.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 next year, which is the 15th year of IPL,  will have 10 teams. Currently the IPl has 8 teams. On 28th September BCCI officially announced that the appointment of two new IPL teams will be announced on 25th October 2021. Companies who are interested in buying the team will have to fill a tender. The companies will give all the details of how the team will be managed, that they have the money to pay the players, staff, their travel, stay etc. This document has to be bought from IPL for Rs. 10 lakh. Non refundable After getting all the tenders, IPL will evaluate them and see if they fit the criteria set by IPL. If IPL finds that the company will not be able to manage the team, that company’s tender will be rejected. Then on 25th October there will be an auction in Dubai for the 2 new teams. The companies whose tenders were approved, will be allowed to bid in the auction. The starting price of the bid for each team will be Rs. 2000 crore. 

Currently, there are teams from cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata etc. According to sources, there may be a total of six cities Guwahati, Ranchi, Cuttack, Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Dharamsala. From these 6 cities, 2 cities would be selected. It is learned that successful bidders will own the new franchises for perpetuity. It is reported that Sanjiv Goenka of the RPSG Group, Ahmedabad-based Adani Group, Torrent Pharmaceuticals, and Aurobindo Pharma are amongst the interested parties. Adani Group aiming to buy the franchise based in Ahmedabad. This is not the first time that there will be more than 8 teams in the IPL. In the year 2011, there were 10 teams when the Pune Warriors and the Kochi Tuskers were added. Then in  2013, 9 teams played the IPL.
