Anupama Has Ruined My Life Says a Young Girl

A Reddit post that says that “Anupama” has ruined her life is now going viral with several young people agreeing with the girl’s post.

Since 2020, Anupamaa has been Star Plus' top show. The show, which came up as a 'game-changer' for Indian television, has a large fan base in India and other countries too. Anupamaa, starring Rupali Ganguly, is praised for showing motherhood in a different light. However, the show has often been criticized for its plot. The show has been criticized for its overly dramatic portrayal of youth and teenage relationships.

On the show, Pakhi, Anupamaa's daughter, is negatively portrayed in recent episodes. Again. Pakhi is portrayed in the show as an "abusive" daughter to her mother. Since the show began, Pakhi has been shown as a "difficult" child who never appreciates her mother for anything. Teenagers go through a period of anger and short-temperateness during their teenage and early 20s, which is entirely normal. We've all gone through that phase where we thought everything and assumed the entire universe was against us.

However, as we grew older, we realized that real life differs from what we had imagined. We learned how important our parents are and how much effort they put into raising us.

Initially, for some months, we saw Anupamaa being mentally abused by her husband and two kids. Her kids often called her 'Gawaar' for the lack of proper education or for being 'modern' like other mothers in their school and college. However, now according to a Reddit thread, a woman wrote about her feelings and the show's effect on her life and mental health.

She wrote, ``As the show gets more intense and “innocent Anupama” gets more "Abused" by her kids, my mom keeps relating to it and treating me like "I am one of those kids who treat their mom badly". Giving her personal information she said, my parents have always been verbally and physically abusive to me till my late teenage years, my dad is still abusive verbally. Irrespective of this all, I have tried my best to be a good kid, I always have been a topper in school, and scored highest in the board exams in my school. But my parents never cared about it all, they always wanted me to be a "patient, old school and innocent daughter". I have been bold and straightforward in my words since childhood due to which I was abused a lot more, so I went through a lot of emotional and mental distress, but now I am trying to get myself out of it all mentally, and focusing on myself, but still, I do not run away from my responsibilities and do all chores and work of home and help my mom as much as I can and also take care of my two younger sisters while working on my university projects. Ever since that show started my mom started developing more of a "victim complex", she taunts me every now and then and compares me with "Paakhi" of that show, hell it is not taking a big toll on my mental health, even after doing all this, she treats me like hell just because I was too tired to get up the 10th time in the last hour on her command to do her works, even being on my periods. Indian parents suck the soul out of you. I wanna create an anti-Anupama support group at this point. The Reddit user wrote in her thread, which is now going viral with several people supporting her claims.
