Businessman Anand Mahindra has been known for helping and supporting a lot of people. On 8th May 2022, he informed on Twitter that the Mahindra Group had gifted a special kitchen to Idli Amma on the occasion of Mother’s Day. M Kamalathal is famously known as Idli Amma. She is a resident of Vadivelampalayam village in the Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. The elderly woman wakes up before sunrise each day, prepares 1000 idlis in her small cottage and on a wood burning stove. She sells each idli for just ?1. She herself prepares the batter, steams the idlis and grinds the chutneys. Her aim is not to make profit but to serve humanity. She wants to make her idlis affordable for the daily wage labourers, migrant workers and their families. In September 2019, Anand Mahindra heard about her and posted a clip video on Twitter. He had also written that if anyone knows her he will be happy to ‘invest’ in her business & buy her an LPG fuelled stove because she was still using a wood burning stove.

Lot of people come here, eat well and wish her the best.  Sometimes people don’t give her money, she doesn't have a problem with that. Sometimes people eat 10 idlis but give her only Rs. 5. She accepts whatever is given to her. She had wished to expand her kitchen. She had said, “Mr Pugal from the Mahindra group came to my hut. It was too congested. I asked him for a new house for me. He promised to check and get back to me.” After she expressed the need for a better workspace, the Mahindra Group decided to act on it. A piece of land was bought and registered. Mahindra Lifespaces made the house plan. A bhoomi pujan was conducted and then the house was being built. The brand new house was handed over to Idli Amma on the occasion of Mother’s Day. Anand Mahindra tweeted, “Immense gratitude (big thank you) to our team for completing the construction of the house in time to gift it to Idli Amma on MothersDay. She is a mix of a Mother’s values of nurturing, caring & selfless. A privilege to be able to support her & her work. Happy Mother’s Day to you all!” What a wonderful gift on Mother’s Day to Idli Amma who is selflessly feeding the poor.
