Afghanistan Suicide Bomber Kills 12

On Sunday 18th October 2020, there was a suicide car bombing in the western Ghor province of Afghanistan. Officials said that at least 12 people were killed and over 100 injured.

On Sunday 18th October 2020, there was a suicide car bombing in the Ghor province of Afghanistan. The Interior Ministry said, “The terrorists detonated an explosives-filled car and as a result 12 civilians were killed and more than 100 people were wounded.”According to reports, the attack took place in front of the Ghor police headquarters in the morning at 11 am. Ghor has not seen much violence as the rest of Afghanistan.

A health official said that the victims included members of security forces. Aref Abir, Ghor governor's spokesperson said, “The explosion was very powerful. The blast damaged nearby buildings that are for handling affairs for women and the disabled.

Mohammad Omer Lalzad, the head of a hospital in Ghor said that dozens of people with serious and light injuries were being treated. He added that the death toll is expected to rise. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. However, there is an increase in the fight between the Taliban and the government.

Last month peace talks began in Qatar to end the decades-long war between the government and Taliban but the violence still continues. There are reports that the talks have stalled as both sides struggle to establish a basic framework for negotiations.
