532 Kg Heroin Seized at the Attari Border

In the Indian Customs history, for the first time have seized over 532 kg heroin valued at around Rs 2,700 crore.

In the Indian Customs history, for the first time they have made such a large seizure of drugs. The Indian Customs seized over 532 kg heroin valued at around Rs 2,700 crore.  The Heroin was seized at the Attari border which is 30km from Amritsar. Commissioner of Customs, Dipak Kumar Gupta told the media that this was the biggest seizure of drugs by any agency in India. The heroin, concealed in 15 gunny bags of a rock salt. These gunny bags were a part of a consignment that was coming from Pakistan. It was detected on Saturday. 

There were 600 bags in total. On examination of the 600 bags, 15 bags were suspected to have narcotic material. After further examination, all 15 were found to contain heroin, having net weight of 532 kg. Two people Tariq Ahmed Lone belonging to Jammu and Kashmir's Handwara and an importer from Amritsar were arrested.Smuggling of drugs along Punjab's 553-km long border with Pakistan is very common.
