50 People Rescued From Flooded Cruise

50 individuals were rescued from a birthday party that was being celebrated at a Catamaran in Gateway of India.

The Gateway of India is a very popular tourist destination. It is a very beautiful place by the sea and is famous for celebrations as well. Many people hire boats and throw birthday parties and celebrate their important days. On Sunday 5th January, 50 people were celebrating a birthday party. These people took a boat to a catamaran that was anchored 1.5km away from Gateway of India. They were all enjoying the birthday party when Someone noticed water entering and started panicking. Some local fishermen on other boats heard the heard people shouting and rushed to help. 

The fishermen then helped to rescue the people. They helped the people get on their fishing boat and dropped them safely to Gateway of India.After checking, the crew found that some screws in the lower part of the Catamaran had become loose which is why water started entering.An officer at the Colaba Police station said, no complaint was registered. The police came to know about this when the locals informed them.The police officer said usually  when such incidents happen people get scared and jump in the water. Thankfully everyone is safe and were rescued immediately.The catamaran owner lives abroad and a caretaker gives the catamaran on rent for parties and functions.The Mumbai Port Trust (MBPT) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB) will both launch an investigation to see if the Catamaran had proper licenses or not. The MBM will complete the investigation in a few days and take strict action.
