10 Dead in Brazil After Rock Falls on Boat

At least 10 people were killed and 30 were left injured after a wall of rock collapsed on top of their motorboats below a waterfall in Capitolio Canyons in Brazil.

In Brazil’s Minas Gerais (state) there is a waterfall named Capitolio Canyons. It is a very popular tourist attraction. On 8th January 2022, there were motorboats filled with tourists below a waterfall who were enjoying the beautiful view. However, a shocking incident occurred and a video of it went viral on social media. In the video a tower of rocks broke away from the cliff wall and came crashing down on two boats, sending out a huge wave over the lake. Initially, it was found that 7 people were dead. However the next day on Sunday 9 Jan, firemen and divers recovered three more bodies from the lake raising the death toll to 10. The injured were taken to local hospitals in the area. Many had broken bones and one person was in serious condition in hospital with head and facial injuries.  Almost 30 people have been injured. Officials say that last week there was heavy rain which may have loosened some of the rocks. The Brazilian Navy said it would open an inquiry to investigate the circumstances of the accident.
