1040 Militants Surrender in Assam

Ingti Kathar Songbijit and 1040 other militants surrendered themselves and pledged to return to mainstream life.

Ingti Kathar Songbijit a dangerous militant who was involved in several incidents of killing of people from minority communities, in the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts in Assam along with 1,040 others militants belonging to groups such as People's Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), Karbi Longri NC Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT), Kuki Liberation Front (KLF) and United People's Liberation Army (UPLA) laid down their weapons and surrendered before Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The militants deposited 338  arms, including 58 AK series rifles, 11 M-16 guns and four Light machine guns (LMG). They all said that they will stop killing people and return to living a normal mainstream life following all rules of the government. 

CM Sonowal welcomed the militants and said that the Assam government is working to make Assam a terror-free state. He said, "We are giving all possible support to the youths coming back to the society. We are giving financial help as well as logistic support." The CM also said that a formal agreement will be signed between the government and the terrorist groups to ensure there is peace in Assam.
