A 21 year old man was held for raping a deaf girl. He is sentenced to 10 years imprisonment

In 2013, a minor deaf girl was raped by two men. One of them named Roshan Ghadse from Chembur has now been sentenced to 10 years in jail. Special Judge MH More held Ghadse guilty under different sections of the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. A DNA test was carried out, but the results emerged negative. Yet, he was arrested only on the basis of the complaint of the girl.

At the time of the incident, the girl lived with her mother and siblings in Chembur.

The girl was raped many times, while she was on her way to the market. She found it difficult to tell anyone.

Her mother realised about the rape after the girl was admitted into hospital for fever, chills and vomitting.

The doctors sent her for sonography, and the police were called, when the reports came.

A woman constable then persuaded the girl to reveal the rape. The girls statement was video recorded in the presence of two teachers who knew sign language. The girl also showed the police the hut where she was raped. The girl said that the rapists took turns in attacking her. They would keep her in the shanty from 2pm till 6 pm. She said that they would keep her hungry while they would eat. She also said that, one time, she tried to run away from the window, without clothes.
