1 in 5 Products Sold by E-Tailers Is Fake

Survey conducted by LocalCircle says that 1 out 5 products sold by e-tailers is fake

A survey done by citizens engagement platform LocalCircles says that 1 out of 5 products sold on e-commerce platforms are fake.  The chances of a fake are the highest for cosmetics and perfumes.

This survey had a sample size of 30,000.  20% of this 30,000 said that they received a fake product in the last 6 months.  When asked which site ships the highest percent of fake goods 37% people said Snapdeal, 22% said Flipkart, 21% said PayTm Mall and 20% said Amazon.   

On which products have the most fakes 35% said perfumes & cosmetics, 22% said sporting goods & 8% said bags.

TOI sent questions on the issue to the 4 major e-commerce companies.  All replied saying that they have a strict policy to stop the sale of fake goods  and some even offer free refunds. Some also said they de list sellers once its proven that they shipped fake goods.

This survey comes during the final leg of the festive season when e-commerce sites are fighting to show high sales.
