World Environment Day 2020

Today 5th June is World Environment Day. Watch our latest video highlighting this year’s theme “Celebrate Biodiversity”.

The whole world is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and many countries are on lockdown. All human beings are forced to stop their daily life and remain at home. However, this has benefited the environment a lot. Because of this, we can see many positive changes in the environment. The air is much cleaner due to less pollution, less garbage, cleaner oceans, rare animals are being spotted out in the open, etc.

Air, water, sun, food, etc. are all gifts from the environment but humans have been taking it for granted for a long time. We need to respect it. This is why World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June to remind people not to take nature for granted. This is one of the biggest events in the world which is hosted by the  United Nations, to raise awareness.

The 5th June was decided as World Environment Day by the UN General Assembly in 1972, on the first day of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment. The World Environment Day 2020’s theme is “Celebrate Biodiversity” The theme is very important because human beings are also a part of nature. If we want to live a long healthy life on earth, we need to make sure we protect and respect nature.

For the last 20 years, there has been so much progress. The population is increasing, technology has advanced, water usage and wastage have increased, we have become cruel to animals, cutting trees, industries and vehicles are damaging air quality, humans are continuously using and misusing natural resources. If we continue to do this, Nature will retaliate. Maybe the COVID-19 outbreak was nature’s way of saying that Humans need to change.

Around the world, during the lockdown, there has been a lot of improvement in nature. Now that the lockdown is lifting in many places, let’s think of ways to protect the environment. We can not go back to our old ways.

Post lockdown, our lives need to change. Save water, use less plastic, use public transportation, protect wildlife, plant trees, etc. Only then nature will care for us. Otherwise, who knows what will happen.
