Over the years, people have given names to different generations based on the years they were born. Each generation has its own style, culture, and way of thinking. Let’s take a quick look at these groups and also learn some popular Gen Z slang words used today.
Generations Over the Years
1. The Greatest Generation (1901–1927)
They lived during the Great Depression and fought in World War II. Jazz and swing music were very popular during their time.
2. Silent Generation (1928–1945)
They grew up during tough times and are known for their simple lifestyle, strong values, and hard work.
3. Baby Boomers (1946–1964)
Born after World War II, they brought big changes in culture, politics, and the economy.
4. Generation X (1965–1980)
They saw the beginning of the internet and technology. They are known to be independent and a bit skeptical.
5. Millennials (1981–1996)
They grew up with the internet, mobile phones, and social media. They care about work-life balance and social issues.
6. Generation Z (1997–2010)

7. Generation Alpha (2010–2024)

8. Generation Beta (2025–2039)
This future generation will be raised with advanced technologies like robots and virtual reality.
9. Generation Gamma (2040–2054)
Expected to be very digitally smart and globally connected.
10. Generation Delta (2055–2069)
Not much is known yet, but it might be a time of big changes in the world.
Popular Gen Z Slangs
Gen Z (people born from 1997 to 2010) uses a lot of fun and creative slang words. Here are some commonly used ones:
No cap – No lie, or seriously
Example: That movie was amazing, no cap!
Slay – Doing something very well or looking amazing
Example: She’s slaying in that saree!
Lit – Very exciting or fun
Example: Yesterday’s wedding was lit!
Simp – Someone who tries too hard to impress someone they like
Example: He’s such a simp for her.
Ghosting – Suddenly cutting off contact without telling
Example: She stopped replying, just ghosted me.
FOMO – Fear of missing out
Example: Everyone’s going on the trip, I’ve got major FOMO.
Lowkey / Highkey –
Lowkey means secretly. Highkey means openly or strongly.
Example: Lowkey, I love that song.

Bussin' – Really tasty (mostly used for food)
Example: This vada pav is bussin'!
Sus – Suspicious or fishy
Example: That guy’s story sounded sus.
