How Animals Show Affection?

Different animals have different ways to showcase their love and affections to their families, partners and humans.

It's not just humans who are creatures of love but animals are too and in some cases even more than us. While there are many ways through which we show affection to our loved ones, some animals have but one way that not only separates them from the rest but narrates cute love stories. Here are a few fun and sweet ways through which animals cutely express their love:

1. Swans

Swans have one partner throughout their life. 99% of swans are faithful to their partners and don’t separate. You can make out that a pair of swans is a couple and deeply in love when they swim with their long necks entwined with each other in the shape of a heart. If one partner dies or leaves, the other can even die due to heartbreak.

2. Sea Otters

Sea Otters are known to be very social animals. They prefer staying together in groups with their families and friends. They sleep floating in the water on their backs. It risks them drifting away and separating from their group. Therefore, Sea Otters hold hands while sleeping to avoid losing their family members and their female partner to other males. How adorable…!!

3. Penguins

Apart from their tuxedo-like look and unique walking style, Penguins have a unique way of proposing to their partner. When a male penguin falls in love with a female penguin, he will go on a search to find the smoothest pebble of the beach. And, when he finds one he carries it in his beak and offers it to his potential partner by placing it at her feet. If the female penguin likes the pebble, she will accept the male’s proposal by adding the pebble to her nest. The two will then continue to build the nest together and mate to have babies. Isn’t it romantic!?

4. Seahorses

Most seahorses are monogamous and mate for life. The Seahorse couple is often seen swimming in pairs with their tails linked together but what makes their romance unique in the animal kingdom is dance. They engage in a couple dance which includes spinning around, swimming side by side and changing colors. The seahorse couple perform this dance daily to strengthen their bond. We’re wondering if there are dance reality shows for Seahorses too…

5. Cats

Our feline friends, Cats, have more than one way to express their love. Cats trill when they see someone they like and trust. Trill is a high-pitch repetitive sound made by cats. A trill is a sign of cat’s affection and is often considered as their ‘i love you.’ Another way cats express their love is through blinking. Cats blink slowly with half closed eyes to show affection & contentment. The slow blinking of a cat is known as the ‘cat kiss.’ Cats are cute no matter what they do!

6. Red Foxes

Like the swans, foxes too are monogamous but only the male. The male foxe mates with only one partner throughout his life. If the female fox dies, the male fox refuses to take another partner and remains single for life. However, in the same situation if the male fox dies, then the female fox will look for a new partner almost immediately.

Isn’t it interesting how different animals have different styles to showcase their affection? The vast variety of animals and their ways of love expressions truly amazes me with the beauty of nature.
